Youth Justice Ambassador Program (YJAP)

Marrickville Legal Centre is a not-for-profit community legal centre based in Marrickville, working across New South Wales. As a generalist legal centre, MLC offers holistic support to people often overlooked by our legal system by providing free legal and related services while advocating for equal access to justice and protecting human rights. Our vision is to help people forward towards better and fairer outcomes and create access to justice for us all.

The Youth Justice Ambassador Program (YJAP) is a capacity-building and training program that aims to upskill young people (aged 18 – 25) from diverse backgrounds in Sydney’s Inner West to improve access to justice through community participation and inclusion.

Participants will benefit by learning about various areas of law from our solicitors and guest speakers and will be supported to develop targeted community legal education for young people. Participants will undertake five half-day workshops which will equip them to research, plan and deliver education sessions and resources to share with their own communities and inspire the next cohort of Youth Justice Ambassadors.

Participants should be available to attend all five workshops from 9.30am to 1.00pm on the following dates:

10 July 2023 – Renting

22 September 2023 – Domestic, Family and Sexual Violence

6 November 2023 – Employment

16 February 2024 – Police Powers and Criminal Law

12 April 2024 – Credit and Debt

Participants who complete all five workshops will qualify to become Youth Justice Ambassadors who will deliver two Community Legal Education (CLE) seminars each to their communities between June and October 2024. Certificates of Completion and gift cards will be available upon successful completion of the workshops and delivery of two CLE seminars.

YJAP is a program that is delivered for the Inner West community, by the Inner West community. In their application, applicants should describe their connection to the Inner West community through, for example, residence, work, study or volunteering.
